Poorly installed insulation results in energy loss, poor thermal and sound insulation, and increased heating and cooling costs. Since it is very easy to make a series of mistakes during the renovation and construction of a house when installing the facade, it is useful to know what to watch out for and where the most common mistakes occur. Avoid additional costs and read on!

  1. Surface Preparation

When facade materials adhere poorly, it not only ruins the aesthetics of the building but also leads to plaster disintegration and water penetration. Therefore, when installing a facade, it is crucial to:

  • Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and level.

  • Use high-quality materials resistant to weather conditions and external influences.

Why does poor adhesion occur? There can be several reasons: uncleaned weak surfaces, lack of primer before gluing the thermal insulation board, skimping on adhesive, or using the wrong adhesive.

  1. Reinforcement Layer

Don't know what proper reinforcement layer installation looks like? Your Pro should know. But briefly: adhesive is applied to the thermal insulation board with a notched trowel, and the facade mesh is embedded in it. After drying, adhesive is applied once more over everything.

If the second layer of adhesive is missing, the reinforcement layer will crack. You will have the same problem if your Pro installs a mesh with poor alkaline resistance during the renovation. Why? Because it disappears due to the polymer-cement action of the adhesive, leaving the facade without adequate support.

Fixing these mistakes requires a lot of additional funds as construction costs have skyrocketed in the past year. Thinking of selling the house and leaving the worry to the new owner?

Until you repair the facade, the market value of the property will be significantly reduced. Now that you know all this, consider whether it is worth saving on materials and contractors.

  1. Sealing Joints

Proper sealing of joints during renovation or construction of a house is essential to ensure the watertightness of the facade system. If you do not install corner beads at the corners, drip edges on horizontal edges, and APU strips at the joinery and facade joints, you will have problems with moisture, water penetration, rotting of interior walls and floors, and cracking joints.

  1. Ventilation

In addition to the aforementioned, it is important to ensure proper facade permeability. This prevents moisture accumulation and condensation, which leads to mold growth and rotting of wooden elements.

Additionally, due to improperly executed ventilation and thermal bridges, you will feel less heating and cooling efficiency and greater dissatisfaction due to high electricity bills. Yes, it should be the opposite, we know.

  1. Choosing the Final Layer

The final layer of the facade, in addition to its aesthetic appearance, has the task of protecting the entire facade system from atmospheric influences. Therefore, it must be strong, water-repellent, UV-resistant, and vapor-permeable.

This is where the biggest mistakes are made - either inadequate or lower quality materials are chosen. For example, pigments and toners mixed with the final layer are not all equally resistant to UV radiation, and if they are also of poor quality, the facade will fade over time.

An even bigger problem arises if very dark tones are used. If your Pro suggests this solution, know that in this case, the envelope heats up to over 90 degrees in summer. This can cause damage to the thermal insulation board if the facade system is made with styrofoam.

To avoid additional costs and maintain efficiency and a beautiful facade appearance, choose only quality Pros and final layers with enough additives, antifungicides, and other necessary elements. If you want someone more experienced to take care of it, then Postay!
